Bistrita, Romania



Born in 1990 in Bistrița, Romania, Radu Dunca starts studying the violin at the age of 7 at the “Sigismund Toduță” Music High School in Cluj-Napoca with Liliana Făgărășan, and later with Adrian Cârdan. He graduated the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree under Professor’s Nicușor Silaghi guidance. Radu continued his studies in Holland, studying with the world-renowned Romanian violinist Liviu Prunaru at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he’s granted his Master’s Degree.

He participates in various masterclasses held by Adelina Oprean (Basel), Alexander Sitkovetsky (London), Alexandru Tomescu, Gabriel Croitoru, Priya Mitchell (Oxford), Semion Yaroshevich (Tel Aviv), Ștefan Gheorghiu, Daria Zappa (Bern), Natalia Lomeiko (London), Florin Paul (Hamburg), Eszter Haffner (Graz), Maxim Vengerov and Mihaela Martin (Köln).

As a soloist, Radu performed with various Romanian orchestras such as Transilvania State Philharmonic Orchestra Cluj-Napoca,  Craiova State Philharmonic Orchestra, Sibiu State Philharmonic Orchestra, Satu Mare State Philharmonic Orchestra, Râmnicu Vâlcea State Philharmonic Orchestra, Botoșani State Philharmonic Orchestra, Cluj-Napoca National Opera, Romanian Youth Orchestra, under the baton of prestigious conductors like Gabriel Bebeșelea, Cristian Mandeal, Alexandru Lascae, Petre Sbârcea, David Crescenzi, Josef Horvath, Adrian Morar.

Due to several scholarships offered by the SoNoRo Chamber Music Festival – SoNoRo, Radu participated in masterclasses held by Daria Zappa, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Natalia Lomeiko, Eszter Haffner, and also performed in Bucharest, Brașov, Craiova, Râmnicu Vâlcea, Cluj-Napoca, Arezzo and Montepulciano (Italy).

Radu is the concertmaster of the Romanian National Opera House Orchestra in Bucharest, the Romanian Youth Orchestra and the Romanian National Symphony Orchestra.
