Rafael Butaru graduated the “Gheorghe Dima” Academy in Cluj-Napoca and currently is the concertmaster of the Romanian National Opera House Orchestra in Bucharest, the “George Enescu” State Philharmonic Orchestra and the Romanian National Symphony Orchestra.

During his career, Rafael performed together with famous musicians like Marin Cazacu, Dorin Marc, Liviu Prunaru, Răzvan Popovici, Răzvan Suma, Gilles Apap, Reto Bieri, David Cohen, Daishin Kashimoto, Diana Ketler, Bjørg Lewis, Alexander Sitkowetsky, Daniel Rowland, Serghei Malov, Alina Pogostkina.

Following the invitation to participate in the Young Talents National Program as a lecturer, mentor, and member of the jury during the scholar’s selection process, Rafael Butaru is named Friend of the “Princess Margareta of Romania” Foundation.

As a soloist, he performed together with the Romanian Radio OrchestraRomanian Radio Chamber OrchestraRomanian Youth Orchestra, and the Râmnicu-Vâlcea Philharmonic.

Together with the ArGenTango ensemble, Rafael concluded two national tours and recorded a CD, Live at the Radio Hall. He’s a member of the Ludens Piano Trio, I Ludici ensemble, performing with these ensembles at festivals like SoNoRo, Magic Summer and Enescu and World’s Music.
