Born in Caransebeș, Romania, Vlad Popescu began to play the violin at the age of 8 at the local music school. After finishing his studies with prof. Maria Cleșiu in Timișoara, Romania, Vlad studied in Graz, Klagenfurt, Berlin, and Rostock with professors like Helfried Fister, Eberhard Feltz, and Stefan Hempel. As a devoted chamber musician, he is founding member of the Furiant String Quartet Berlin, winning several International Chamber Music Competitions and having an intense concert activity throughout various continents.
Vlad Popescu has performed as a soloist with the Kärnten Symphony Orchestra Klagenfurt and the Banatul Philharmonic Orchestra Timișoara. As an orchestra musician, he has held leading positions in orchestras like Württenbergisches Kammerorchester Heilbron, Ensemble Ruhr, Kammerorchester Amade and the SFK Symphony Orchestra. With the Tuscan Youth Orchestra and the orchestras of the Music Universities in Rostock (Germany) and Timișoara (Romania), Vlad has performed several times as concertmaster.
Since 2014 he was selected in the Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now Berlin program, performing numerous concerts for the association.
Starting with 2018, Vlad Popescu is the artistic director of the EUFONIA Chamber Music Festival, a complex project aiming to develop the musical, educational, and the cultural landscape in Romania.
Vlad is currently playing on a beautiful Philippe Girardin violin, on permanent loan from Dr. Peter Hauber in Berlin.
