Call for Scores

Since the debut of our ensemble in 2019, one of the pylons of the project was to motivate young Romanian composers to write music for us, music of our time. The winning compositions were premiered and dedicated to the Romanian Chamber Orchestra, and performed also abroad. One example is the work written by Oana Vardianu, entitled Genesis, which was performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the Cadogan Hall, having the UK premiere on the 29th of June 2024. Between 2019 and 2026, more than 70 compositions were written for the Call for Scores competition organized by our ensemble.

The main purpose of the Call for Scores competition is to empower emerging Romanian composers to write music, so that they can enrich the national and international contemporary repertoire.

The Call for Scores competition is open to young composers, aged 18 – 40, who hold Romanian citizenship. Each competitor can participate with one or more compositions.

The work with which they will participate in the competition must be original, not previously performed in front of the public.
The maximum duration of the work must be 10 minutes.

Registration does not involve any participation fee and is done via e-mail, sent to the address: office.romanianchamberorchestra@gmail.com, in the subject of the e-mail mentioning: RCO Call for scores – PARTICIPANT NAME.
