Cristian Andriș

Cristian Andriș is a Romanian – Swiss violist born in 1984. Currently, he is principal viola at the Swiss Orchestra, Romanian Symphony Orchestra and the Romanian Chamber Orchestra, member of the Romanian String Quartet, collaborating with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra and Stuttgarter Kammerorchester a.o. During the last years, he gained a wide experience as orchestra musician through his collaborations with the Orquestra de la Comunidad Valenciana, Camerata Salzburg, Lucerne Festival Strings, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana Lugano, Qatar Philharmonic, Orquesta Filarmonia Madrid, CHAARTS Chamber Artists, National Symphony Orchestra of Romania, Romanian Radio Chamber Orchestra a.o, performing under the baton of world-renowned conductors like Ricardo Chailly, Zubin Mehta, Christoph Eschenbach, Sir Roger Norrington, Bernard Haitink or Cristian Măcelaru, in prestigious concert venues like Berliner Philharmonie, NCPA Beijing, Herkulessaal Münich, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía Valencia, Teatro Real Madrid, Konzerthaus Berlin, Auditorio Nacional de Música de Madrid, Katara Opera House, Maraya Al Ula, Palau de la Música Catalana Barcelona, Lotte Concert Hall Seoul, Sydney Opera House, İş Sanat Kültür Merkezi İstanbul, Auditorium Parco della Musica Roma, Maraya Concert Hall a.o.

He is the founder and the artistic director of the Romanian Symphony Orchestra and the Romanian Chamber Orchestra, ensembles that bring together, under the baton of maestros Cristian Măcelaru or Gabriel Bebeșelea, some of the most appreciated Romanian musicians from the country and the Diaspora, a “national team” of Romanian musicians.

Starting 2014, Cristian Andriș is professor for Viola, Chamber Music and Orchestra excerpts coordinator at the Faculty of Music and Theater/West University Timisoara, Romania. He was also invited as a viola teacher of the Youth Orchestras of Romania and the Youth Orchestra of Moldova, at “Dokuz Eylül” University in Izmir, pedagogy representing an important point of his career.

After finishing his Artistic Diploma (bachelor studies) in 2009, and two master’s degrees in 2010 and 2011, he obtained in 2019 the title of Doctor in Music. Also in 2019, the Bucharest Music Publishing House released two of his books – “Concerto for Viola and Orchestra by Béla Bartók: tradition versus manuscript” and “An analytical and interpretive vision of the Concerto for Viola and Orchestra by Cecil Forsyth”. In 2021 he obtained his Habilitation at the West University of Timisoara and since then he is also a PhD and Postdoctoral studies coordinator.

Between November 2021 and October 2023, Cristian Andriș was the Director of the Doctoral School for Music and Theater at WUT, and from October 2023 till March 2024 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Music and Theater – WUT.

As chamber music partners, Cristian Andriș performed alongside world-renowned artists like: Wen-Tsin Yang, Robert Cohen, Boris Garlitzki, Gerhard Schulz, Hyeyoon Park, Dorin Marc, Alissa Margulis, Latica Honda Rosenberg, Isabel Charisius, Felix Renggli, Răzvan Popovici, Bernhard Hartog, Liviu Prunaru, Wolfram Christ, Andra Darzins, Marin Cazacu, Olaf Manninger, Marc Bouchkov, Alexander Kerr, Alberto Menchen, Alexander Buzlov, Ulrich Wolff, Friederike Starkloff a.o.

As a soloist, he performed with the Romanian National Radio Orchestra, Orquesta Filarmonia Madrid, the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra, the National Youth Orchestra of Romania, the “Banatul” Philharmonic Orchestra from Timișoara, the “Transylvania” Philharmonic Orchestra from Cluj-Napoca, the State Philharmonic from Sibiu a.o.

Cristian Andriș studied in Madrid – at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía, in Freiburg im Breisgau – Hochschule für Musik, Lugano – Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana, and Hamburg – Hochschule für Musik und Theater, with renowned viola players and pedagogues like Wolfram Christ, Bruno Giuranna, Gérard Caussé, Marius Nichiteanu, Diemut Poppen, David Quiggle and Jensen Horn Sim Lam. In 2009 he obtained the Diploma of Artistic Studies from the University of Music in Freiburg im Breisgau, in 2010 the Master’s Diploma in Instrumental Interpretation from the Conservatory of Lugano, and in 2011 the Master’s Diploma from the University of Music in Hamburg, all diplomas being obtained with the highest award. He benefited from different scholarships like the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship – ESKAS, Fundación Albéniz, Vontobel Stiftung, Schweizerische Interpretenstiftung SIS a.o. During his studies, he attended viola masterclasses with famous violists like Tabea Zimmermann, Hatto Beyerle, Andra Darzins, Walter Küssner, Hartmut Rohde or Tanja Chris.

Ladislau Cristian Andriș plays on a viola built by the French luthier Charles Boullangier in 1885 and with a gold viola bow made by Stéphane Thomachot.

Simona Andra Herczeg

Operations Manager

Is a cultural project manager, political scientist and university lecturer, with extensive experience in European affairs, cultural management and academic education.

Simona is former European Affairs Advisor at the European Parliament in Brussels, with solid experience in international institutional cooperation. She is an active cultural manager and project coordinator, involved in the development and implementation of cultural, educational and artistic projects in collaboration with NGOs, artists and cultural institutions, with experience in project writing, management and international cultural partnerships.
